Welcome to the Civil engineering WikiProject on the English Wikipedia! We are a group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to civil engineering. If you would like to join us, please feel free to add your name to the list of project members!

Contents

[edit] Goals

  1. To serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to civil engineering in Wikipedia.
  2. To improve Wikipedia's coverage of civil engineering by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles.
  3. To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles within the scope of civil engineering.

[edit] Scope

This project generally considers any article on civil engineering topics—including the topics of its various sub-disciplines—to be within its scope. This, however, does not include specific engineering projects like particular bridges or buildings (we would be happy to provide consultation on these articles). Our project does include articles about the methods of analysis, theories, and engineering systems of civil engineers as well as articles about the people and organizations of civil engineering. We also incorporate specific civil engineering failures into our project because of the large impact they can have on our field.

[edit] Structure

Currently, the project has no organized structure. Members, and non-members, are encouraged to participate in the project and/or article-related editing as they prefer.

[edit] Tasks you can do

To-do list for Wikipedia:WikiProject Civil engineering:

As editors join the project, offering their help, they may not know where to start. Here's a list of tasks that either need regular attention or fulfill the goals of our project:

  1. The article civil engineering needs to have the "sub-disciplines" and "careers" sections referenced and details added. We would like to bring this article to good article, and, eventually, featured article status.
  2. The Category:Hydraulic engineering and Category:Transportation engineering categories need to be populated and organized.
  3. The civil engineering banner needs to be placed on more talk pages of appropriate articles to serve as advertisement and enable assessment.
  4. Articles related to mass wasting need to be cleaned up and aggregated into a category. A navbox may also be appropriate for this series, and working with WP:GEOLOGY may be appropriate.
  5. There are civil engineering stubs that need expanding.

[edit] Assessment

Total 3 11 14 3 607 638

One of the goals of the Civil Engineering WikiProject is to assess the quality of Wikipedia's CE articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to help in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program.
