Welcome to the Cheshire WikiProject, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of the UK county, Cheshire. We aim to provide complete coverage on subjects related to Cheshire, by creating, expanding, and maintaining articles on people, places, and things resident or native to, or located in Cheshire. We are also the project which maintains the Cheshire Portal.

Goals
  • To improve all wikipedia articles that are concerned with Cheshire, including its history, geography, people, constructions and buildings, establishments and customs so that as many as possible become Featured Articles.
  • To maintain, improve, and expand the Cheshire Portal.
  • Identify 'holes' or omissions in the coverage of Cheshire, and write new articles to remove them.
  • All relevant articles should be included in the Category:Cheshire or one of its subcategories.
Scope
  • Articles about all subjects related to Cheshire, including articles on people, places, and things resident or native to, or located in Cheshire.
  • The Cheshire Portal - its maintainance, expansion, and updating.

[edit] Guidelines

We shall try to follow the Wikipedia:Manual of Style for our articles.

[edit] Open tasks

The process of specifying open tasks is currently taking place on the project's talk page. Please feel free to join in.

Urgent Task

We need to begin to assess all articles that fall within our remit. The new assessments sub-page is now accessible here and can provide guidance on how to do this.

To-do list for Wikipedia:WikiProject Cheshire:

Here are some tasks you can do:
  • Requests: Articles about the following:
    • Every parish and/or settlement in Cheshire, together with appropriate templates added (see talk page for some resources, and here for the tables that need completing.)
    • Canals in Cheshire (already started)
    • The Salt Industry in Cheshire (already started)
    • Public Footpaths of Cheshire (already started)
    • Roads of Cheshire
    • Rivers of Cheshire (possibly closely linked with the canals article)
    • Railways of Cheshire
    • Archeological Sites of Cheshire
    • The Silk Industry of Cheshire
    • Public Parks and Gardens of Cheshire
    • Religion in Cheshire
    • "Firsts" of Cheshire (inventions, structures, etc)
The above tasks might consist in writing new articles, even if they are very brief at the moment, and also in searching out already existing articles on wikipedia that would fall into one of these categories. They should be initially placed into appropriate lists so others can see them and help complete them.
  • Expand:

    Work on the following:
    The project's talk page to expand the project page and specify various tasks that need doing;

The Cheshire Portal to expand and maintain it to a high standard.
  • Other: Urgently begin to assess all articles that fall within the remit of the project.

[edit] Improving Articles

This entire section gives information about Cheshire-related articles as they progress from simple stubs into becoming Featured Articles with Featured Status. In general, articles should move down into later sub-sections, ending up in the "Featured articles" sub-section at the end. The methods that are used to assess articles are described in the next-but-one main section.

[edit] Articles up to becoming candidates for but not yet attaining Good Article (GA) status

This section deals with the creation of a basic article from simple stub via a short article into one which can be considered, with a little work, to become a candidate for Good Article (GA) status. Articles can be added at any stage in this sub-section. Once an article moves into a later sub-section (1.2 and beyond), it should never return to this one.

[edit] New Stubs

Now done Cranage and Hassall.  DDStretch  (talk) 19:18, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Done: Somerford, Somerford Booths, and Moreton cum Alcumlow. This means that Congleton (borough) now has articles covering all of its civil parishes. Many are stubs, and may need cleaning up, etc, but at least there are entries there now. Next stop, Macclesfield (borough)  DDStretch  (talk) 17:55, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Stoke, Mickle Trafford, Bridge Trafford, Hoole Village, Foulk Stapleford, Harthill, Handley, Dodleston, Shocklach Oviatt, Thornton-le-Moors, Tilston. Peter I. Vardy 11:36, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New articles

Please feel free to list your new Cheshire-related articles here (newer articles at the top, please). Any new articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Page.

[edit] Already existing Articles that have been substantially reworked or expanded

Please feel free to list Cheshire-related articles here that you have substantially reworked or expanded. This could also include cases where you have added substantial citations and references to an article. (Newer articles at the top, please). Any such articles that have an interesting or unusual fact in them should be suggested for the Did you know? box on the Main Page.

[edit] Achieving Good article (GA) status

Articles in this sub-section are either close to being nominated for Good Article (GA) status (GA), have been nominated, or have achieved Good Article status. Wikipedia:Good articles gives more information about this status for articles. (Good Article status can be viewed as a sub-goal to achieving Featured Article Status). The criteria an article has to meet or exceed for it to be given Good Article status can be read about here. The process by which an article is nominated for Good Article status can be found here.

[edit] Articles almost ready to nominate for Good Article (GA) status

These articles should be judged to require only a relatively small amount of work before they can be nominated for Good Article status.

[edit] Articles that have been nominated for Good Article (GA) status and which await a decision

Once a decision has been reached, if successful, list the article in the next sub-sub-section; if not successful, then move it back into the first sub-sub-section of this sub-section.

[edit] Good article Articles that have succeeded in gaining Good Article (GA) status
