On December 13, 2007, former US senator George Mitchell published a report including the names of several Major League Baseball players (some of which were All-Stars and MVPs) who allegedly used illegal performance-enhancing drugs. 89 players were named, six of which were former Red Sox players (while there were no current Red Sox players named). The six Red Sox players were: Eric Gagné, Brendan Donnelly, Mo Vaughn, Mike Lansing, Jeremy Giambi, and José Canseco. The other 83 players named were:
