Contents

The purpose of this WikiProject has two main parts. First, it seeks to expand the coverage of weblogs on Wikipedia to the point where it is the most comprehensive resource in existence on this emerging aspect of online and media culture. Second, it seeks to do so sanely, and with an eye towards making sure the coverage reflects what is important about blogs, and what is not a mess of vanity articles, self-promotion, and trivia.

  • Snowspinner
  • mennonot 18:22, 27 November 2005 (UTC) - I think this project is especially important in the light of User:Timecop/The war on blogs.
  • Esto - This "war on blogs" is inane.
  • VanillaX - Blogs are coming to the front of the internet, Wikipedia must be able to support them.
  • ComputerJoe I am more than happy to support this, as a blogger myself.
  • Tevslin 19:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC) Blogs are a good indication of what is being discussed. bloggers and wikipedians overlap. blogs in the aggregate are often good sources. glad to help (and am a blogger)

  • Paulpro
  • Sara.G.Goldstein Newbie here who'd like to help, esp. in light of the "war on blogs"! Not every blog deserves an individual entry, but the main areas of the blogosphere definitely do as they're providing substantive alternative coverage of their topics. Let me know how I can help!

We are going to start assessing articles in our scope, such as blogs and blog hosting services, and nominate non-notable ones for deletion in the process.

Please use {{WikiProject Blogging}} to assess articles. Anyone, member of this project or not, may assess articles. Please read Wikipedia:WikiProject Blogging/Assessment.

[edit] Notability

Currently we suggest you adhere to Wikipedia:Websites. It's worth noting that a criterion for website inclusion is of been covered in (inter)national news. At some point we may want to more finely tune these criteria for blogs; paying particular attention to what level of news coverage, both local and national, is considered notable.

[edit] Where to put the information

One thing we want to avoid is the creation of permastubs. Since blogs are somewhat prone to having "fifteen minutes of fame," this is a particular danger, and so care is needed in deciding what topics deserve articles, and what topics are best dealt with in the context of other articles. Some guidelines. Let us take a hypothetical blogger Joe Q. Blogger whose blog is called Quirkblog

  • If Mr. Blogger's only claim to fame is the success of Quirkblog, the article should exist at Quirkblog.
  • If Quirkblog's only claim to notability is that it was made by Mr. Blogger, the article should exist at Joe Q. Blogger.
  • If Quirkblog would be notable regardless of its creator (i.e. if it has gotten media coverage, etc) and Joe Q. Blogger is notable beyond his blog, both articles should exist.

[edit] Categorising

It is asked for members of this WikiProject to help categorise blog-related articles into the relevant categories, such as Category:Blogs and Category:Blog software.
