Maintenance

Easy set-up instructions for yearly team articles: Place this template on a new page, changing the proper values for the year, full team name, three letter abbreviations, and full league name. (For the full league name, add "American League" or "National League" for any date up to 1968, and AL East, NL East, AL Central, NL Central, AL West, or NL West for any date 1969-present.) It will automatically add the necessary content. Note: It does not place an infobox. It would be easier if you create that yourself. Everything else should be there. Also, this is not flawless. You may have to make a few minor changes to capital/lowercase letters.

{{subst:User:Jj137/MLB|year|full team name|3 letter abbreviation|full league name}}

2007 MLB team articles
We have created season articles for every MLB team for the 2007 season.

Go to /2007 MLB team articles for a list of teams and people currently editing the articles.
2006 MLB team articles
There is also a page going for /2006 MLB team articles if you want to edit pages that all the information is ready.

Naming convention

Follow the guidelines listed at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (baseball players)

Notability
This section is a WikiProject essay on notability. It contains the advice and/or opinions of one or more WikiProjects on how they interpret notability within their area of expertise. It is not a policy or guideline, and editors are free to, but not obliged to follow it during XfD's.

WikiProjects are encouraged to write essays on notability that meet or exceed the expectations of notability or the applicable sub-guideline (BIO, ORG, NUMBER, ACADEMICS, and rest of the sub guidelines). Please update the page as needed, or discuss it on the talk page.

Lists

When creating an article for an MLB player, remember to add his name to the list of Major League Baseball players. Also, when adding them to the list, make sure he has actually played in the majors. (This is sometimes an issue with prospects who were added to the 40-man roster without receiving a callup to the majors.)

From players to managers to owners, more info at Players task force.

[edit] Teams

Article structure

The guidelines in this section are intended to serve as a starting point for writing a good article; they are not meant to enforce a single structure on all articles, nor to limit the topics an article will discuss. Defunct teams should be similarly structured to existing teams.

  1. Team info (template)
  2. Team history (abridged)
    1. Separate link to detailed history (when appropriate)
  3. Current roster (template)
  4. Retired numbers & HoFers
  5. Links to more info (template)
    1. Award winners & league leaders
    2. Team records (current records should be deleted on sight.)
    3. Players of note (non-HoFers)
      1. Team's HoF
    4. Broadcasters
    5. Managers & ownership
    6. Post-season series

Note: When using team abbreviations, please refer to WikiProject Baseball/Team abbreviations.

We have an Article Improvement Drive to improve all baseball articles to featured status (that's the goal). Click here to participate.

[edit] Task forces

We have a number of task forces in this project. The following is a list of these task forces and their purpose. Anyone may join a task force and improve the quality of the articles they cover.

If you are interested in a different area which is covered by this project but has no specialty, consider proposing a task force on the talk page. There are many advantages to creating a task force, rather than starting a new project.
