From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The following is a FAQ for the Dragon Ball task force. It is intended to give answers to commonly asked questions in order to prevent the same discussions from cropping up again every week or so and to avoid common mistakes when editing related articles.

[edit] Naming
Q: Why are the names so weird? Who is Yamucha? Kuririn? Shen Long? Freeza? Majin Boo?
A: You see, our task force is using the Japanese-translated version of Dragon Ball as its source, that means that we are using the Japanese-translated names instead of the English ones.

[edit] Cruft
Q: What is cruft and why are my edits always called this?
A: Cruft is information that would be interesting to fans of Dragon Ball but not to anyone else. It is un-cyclopedic information. Since Wikipedia is supposed to inform everyone about Dragon Ball, some things do not belong. While many fans would love to know what power level Piccolo was at when he fired his Makkankosappo at Raditz, this is not something a non-fan would care about.
[edit] Original Research
Q: What is this "OR" stuff? Why do people keep reverting my edits saying it is this?
A: OR, or "original research", is when you add something to an article that you thought of. Basically, if the content cannot be referenced to a reliable source, you cannot add the information. It may be likely that Shenlong taught Son Goku the Super Dragon Fist, but, if you cannot source it, you cannot add it. However, if it is a simple calculation, like how many different forms of Super Saiyan there are, it is fine.
[edit] Linking
Q: What's with these Character lists? Why don't my links go where I want them to?
A: Some characters have their own articles, and some don't. Most characters are included in the List of Dragon Ball Characters, and need to have more specific links.

[edit] Adaption
Q: What version of the series are you following, and why?
A: Since there are so many adaptations of Dragon Ball available, we have to stick to one to avoid conflicts, and maintain a general level of agreement. For instance, a character's name varies with publisher, like Vegetto is also known as Vegerot in the Viz version of the comic. That is why we adhere to the comic and in most cases where there is conflict, we prefer the Japanese-language English subtitled version of the show.
Q: Why only follow the comic and not the show and movies?
A: This is not entirely true. The task force does follow the show, but only to a certain extent. For example, in the case of Dragon Ball GT, there is no reference from the comic available, simply because it is not based on a comic. Also, the movie and video game pages take all reference from their respective content. Only in a case of collision, we give preference to the comic as it was as the original author intended, without any potholes as there are in other media.
