[edit] List Footer?

Iv noticed that a huge number of pages get linked to things like list of airplanes, or list of engines, etc. Perhaps we shouls standarize certian lists for getting placed on every page, and create a message for it so we dont have to cut and paste every time. The idea being every aircraft page can have links to list of all engines, list of all aircraft, etc. Im not really sure the best way to do this, but i'v created an example below. Note that this list footer is a independent idea or change from the current footer. It could be integrated, though I have not tried this.

How about incorporating the listbox in the related content table? Like:

The MediaWiki item would be the table row content? It could probably do with some abbreviation. Geoff/Gsl 00:40, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Sorry gsl, Iv gone and put it on every page I could find already. I do like this integration, perhaps this can be done on pages that have the regular footer as well? The code is as did it earlier, and its wikimedia'd as " msg:airlistbox ". I only made the media wiki about half way throught though, so there's lot of pages that would need changed to the msg: if we were to make a change like abreviations. Im going to make a note of this on the main page under the footer now. If there's a redone version thats enough different its still might be worth replacing the hard-coded ones . I think that the "micro-footer" is a great idea, but for aircraft weapons (and/or military aircraft?), adding/substituting list of aircraft weapons and list of aircraft weapon manufacturers would seem more relevant --Rlandmann 09:18, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Yea I know I put it on a lot pages that probably need a custiomized one. I almost added list of weapons, but thought it might be better to have a more unique one for all the miltary ones. Maybe make a expanded one that includes those- "airboxmil"? I felt weird including links to weapons for the civy aircraft, though its a little akward on a missile pages as well. Other ideas- list of airforces, airlines? Also as a side note, the 'links here' on the mediawiki page lists almost every air-related page thats done :O! Greyengine5 19:54, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Greyengine5, I think all the changes you've made are fine and the {{msg:airlistbox}} is a lot easier for people to add than having to insert the msg into a table. An in-table msg could be an alternative to the airlistbox, but not a replacement. Geoff/Gsl 11:43, 4 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Milt micro-footer dev. For all the milt aircraft. Just exploring some options for including air forces, airlines, and the ones RL mentioned up there.

List of military aircraft - Aircraft weapons - Aircraft weapon manufacturers - List of air forces

With just air weps, airforces, airlnies done it might just be better to put in with current one. Put list of airlines in there to. Maybe to much for one message, though haveing it all tied together isn't to bad.

List of aircraft - Aircraft manufacturers - Aircraft engines - Aircraft engine manufacturers - Aircraft weapons - List of airlines - Years in Aviation

Same thing different format, two stack. Snuck list of weapon manufacturers in one this one to. Tried out capitalizing to.

List of Aircraft - Aircraft Manufacturers - Aircraft Engines - Aircraft Engine Manufacturers
Aircraft Weapons - Manufacturers - List of Air Forces - List of Airlines- Years in Aviation

Eh don't take this one to seriosuly. Just a experiment......

List of Aircraft Aircraft Manufacturers Aircraft Engines Aircraft Engine Manufacturers
Aircraft Weapons Manufacturers List of air forces List of Airlines Years in Aviation

Amount of work involved, is, either going through all the milt pages and placing a new one, or, with a combined design replacing all the hard-coded with msg's. No rush to get it figured out, and of course since it will be msg if some tweaking/error was needed afterwards its no problem. Greyengine5 07:58, 5 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Ok well im thinking of changing the airlist box to this. Having this ties in air forces, airlnes and weapons. I think this is better then separating it since a lot of aircraft have military/civilian cross over. Beyond weapons I can think only of avionics, but these are much less independent then most weapons and not sure these need including. Wep manufactuer, aside from not being done, can be a link within weapons or be added later. This may be to wide, however, even as it is now. I will wait for more input. Ok im just going to update it to this, and start placing it on some more pages. It can just be changes back if there's problem. Certianly it can be rearranged so its a little narrower though I'll leave that for later.Greyengine5 00:17, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Its done- The airlist box is now on nearly every air related pages - aircraft, engines, airforces, airlines, air weapons, etc. Greyengine5 02:10, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)
