Welcome to the Aircraft WikiProject
- Scope
This WikiProject aims primarily to suggest how aircraft-related articles can be put in to Wikipedia in an extensible and coherent manner. It also wishes to encourage participation in creating and expanding articles related to Aircraft on Wikipedia. This project also aims to standardize the structure and display of information in these articles. It is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of Wikipedians.
The scope of the project includes (but is not limited to):
Articles on aircraft types form the bulk of the project and see the greatest activity. Newly contributed articles can be found listed at Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft). Contributions older than the previous month can be found here.
[edit] How you can help
If you would like to participate, add yourself to the Participants page.
You can help out by editing an aircraft-related article, helping to complete a task on our to-do list, or contributing to the discussion on one of our related talk pages. If you would like some suggestions, just ask on the talk page.
If you find an aircraft-related article that hasn't been updated to the specifications standards mandated by the Project you can add {{Aero-table}}. If the aircraft page has no specifications add {{aero-specs}}.
If you find an aircraft-related article without our template, please place our template {{WPAVIATION}} at the top of the talk page. You can also add this to the talk page of images, categories, and templates.
If you find an aircraft-related stub article that has not yet been marked as a stub, add {{Aero-stub}} to the bottom of the article. It will automatically be included in the aircraft stubs category, where you can find plenty of stub articles to expand.
Also, please feel free to add new articles to the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft/Articles, so we can monitor changes to them with the recent changes function.
[edit] Awards
Wikiwings are the official award of WikiProject Aircraft. Styled after military flight wings, they are awarded to anyone who makes extensive, high-quality, or generally valued contributions to the area of aviation on wikipedia. They can be awarded by anyone, to anyone, in a barnstar-like fashion.
The wikiwings award is modelled after Rlandmann's wikiwings award, and were officially adopted by WikiProject Aircraft on October 29, 2005.
[edit] Project status
At the end of 2005, a total of around 2,100 articles on aircraft types existed. The creation of new aircraft articles has slowed to an average of around 35 articles per month. For comparison, Jane's Encyclopedia of Aviation (ISBN 0517103168) claims to have "over 5,000 entries".
