Wikipedia:WikiAfrica /Art

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WikiAfrica Art is a program of WikiAfrica that aims to activate new users and networks bringing African artists and African art on Wikipedia.

Through existing networks and through the foundation of new analogue and digital nets, WAA wants to help the creation on Wikipedia of articles on artists, curators, critics, collectors, works, galleries, Art centers and museums, involving professors, University students and cultural institutions. WAA encourages insertion of site-specific works of art, quotations, books, essays, audio files, videos and images in different wikimedia projects in every language.

In 2007 WAA supported Ars&Urbis international Workshop at Douala and the publication Douala in Translation promoted by Doual'Art Art Center in collaboration with iStrike Foundation and Fondazione lettera27. During the literature festival at Mantova 2007 the curator Simon Njami, the artist Bili Bidjocka and the cultural producer Sylviane Diop gave space to Contemporary Art inside WikiAfrica Workshop.

Presently WAA supports Chimurenga. Chimurenga Library is an online archiving project that profiles independent pan <african paper periodicals from around the world. The south African "Chimurenga magazine"- promoter of the project, involves artists and intellectuals to collaborate with videos and texts and will feature at the Cape Town Book Fair 2008 all documentation able to tell the strenght of these historical reviews that still belong to the present. WAA wants to stimulate debates, elaborations and new contents for Wikipedia.
