Chaunk

Many thanks -- what about the romanized Tamil word "thalchi" that is already there? Badagnani (talk) 18:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you; are you saying that "thalichi" is a corrupted (slang) pronunciation of "thalitthal"? Badagnani (talk) 18:54, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks again--if you have friends who speak Malayalam, Kannada, or any other Indian language -- and who know about cooking, as you seem to (as very many male Indian Wikipedians do not, as I have found!), would you please ask them to supplement the terms in these other languages? Badagnani (talk) 18:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Noted your courtesy notice about ANI. It is unfortunate that unnecessarily that path is chosen. Naadapriya (talk) 00:31, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Chamaraja nagar reference

Hi,

Just typing it here so that, we reach a consensus and then type it in the talk page. Let us have a sincere argument here and then put the consolidated thing there.

The reference (http://www.hindu.com/2008/02/27/stories/2008022757710300.htm) is a news article, which starts with

"Hogenakkal (Chamarajanagar district): Members of the..........."

Hence we can say that there is a place called Hogenakkal near to Chamarajanagar. Now I feel that, Hogenakkal falls will be close to the above mentioned "Hogenakkal". I hope I can make this conclusion. If not, then please let me know why do you feel that the "Hogenakkal" in the article and Hogenakkal falls have no relation at all.

If you agree with my point, then please mention it in the talk page.

thanks

--Skbhat (talk) 14:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Actually there is no point there and if you want me to agree to it that makes it even harder! When you place a reference, you need to show based on proper sources. I recommend you to read WP:RS pretty well which will help you on this topic. What you have shown is not the least by anyreason mean anything close to what you and Naadapriya are claiming to be. I strongly urge you to show some citation on your claim and I see no point in you guys being so adament. Did Pearll's sun or I anytime wanted to remove Kananda language from the lead? Did we try to take away the section on the etymology just because it was about Kannada? No we didn't! You know why? Because we want the article to talk the truth and not just some one sided view. You want the article to sound non-commital,which is not what an encyclopedia is for. I guess you start to see what it is and help in making wikipedia better. Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 14:34, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I will go through the reference thoroughly. I have had an overview of that page earlier. But mainly I concentrated on the line "This page in a nutshell: Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." I thought Hindu news paper qualifies the above requirement. If you feel that 'The Hindu' does not qualify please let me know the reason. I will check out any clause which prohibits me from making the above conclusion using the information in the source.

thanks

--Skbhat (talk) 15:03, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

You will have to understand on how you compare RS materials. You should read this section which will help you. If we have no material and then we have an article from The Hindu, then Hindu is the most RS there. But, nevertheless in this article we have an article from the Government of India Law Ministry and that makes it more RS over The Hindu. Moreover the Hindu material you showed, doesn't state anything that Charmarajanagar is close to the falls or anything. BTW you gotto remember that you agreed blatantly to Naadapriya's suggestion without even cross checking the reference that user was providing. I understand that you may not be aware of the rules within wikipedia. May be next time you should see what the citations back and then extend support. Good luck Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 15:17, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I admit that I should not have just copied the part of the lead by another user without verifying the references. Also, when I edited this article for first time, it was reverted by somebody. But I thought that my changes did not take effect and I again edited it which might have appeared very blunt. I apologize for that.

regards

--Skbhat (talk) 18:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Cool, as long as you can see that on wikipedia you may sometimes get mislead and start following the wrong crowd thats getting into the bandwagon. I appreciate that you are trying to AGF, or at least for now. I hope we make some progress. Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 18:38, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Hogenakkal Falls

Sorry that I haven't been able to help you out thus far with your Hogenakkal Falls editing dispute; I've had unexpected problems in real life and haven't been able to edit much lately. Looking at the article talk page, I don't totally understand what the dispute is about precisely; you said on my talk page that it was about whether to mention the hydroelectric and water projects in the article on the falls, but it now seems to be about whether the falls are located in Tamil Nadu or Karmataka. If you can explain the situation, I can probably help you a bit more; the problem is that I really don't know much about Indian geography. (I haven't even been to India yet, though I'm going in December, hopefully.) I also note that User:John Carter is now working on the issue; he's an experienced admin and someone I trust to be unbiased, so I'll talk to him about it and see if we can resolve it together. WaltonOne 20:53, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I would attempt mediation in any event, as it would be a demonstration of your own good faith and willingness to take any and all indicated steps to resolve the problem. If another party were to choose to not accept mediation, it would be useful to be able to indicate that should other steps prove required later. But at this point there is nothing to lose by at least making the request for formal mediation. John Carter (talk) 14:45, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Other admins do look, but if they see that a matter is being handled they may leave it alone. John Carter (talk) 18:07, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I am relatively new to wikipedia and I want to know how you search for references to support your statements. I see you get referenes from loksabha, google cache, postal dept, police dept.. etc.. How do you go about searching for references? --Gthorvey (talk) 17:34, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Your mediation request

I think your mediation request needs to make it clear that the dispute is over the location of the Falls. Remember, AN/I is where admins deal with issues of user conduct and Mediation is where mediators deal with issues of article content. Neither group is willing to deal with the other issue. Hoping this helps, SHEFFIELDSTEELTALK 14:50, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, there has been a note to that effect on the page. I've signed on as a party as well. John Carter (talk) 15:55, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure that my changing the existing request would be a particularly good idea, as I am myself not that familiar with the groundrules of mediation. One of the mediators did leave a message at the bottom of the request indicating that s/he would be contacting you directly regarding the matter shortly. It might be best to wait and let that person, who probably knows a lot more about mediation than I do, be the one to make any proposed changes. John Carter (talk) 16:28, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
You might want to add that Naadapriya seems to think that being "on the border" has a meaning which no one else seems to agree with, based on what seems to be his impression that the falls are a part of the river, and that rivers in India are generally divided along the center. I think that's what he said earlier, but I can't be sure. However, if I remember the discussion rightly, the source said "generally" that was done, or words to that effect. I'm guessing you have a better knowledge of the previous discussion than I do, and will know better than me where to look to source those comments. Exactly how the word "border" is to be interpreted here should also be a matter for consideration. And there would be no cause for alerting any other projects. The mediation template if and when its added to the talk page will probably be enough to alert any interested parties. John Carter (talk) 19:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Discussions on your use of BS

Discussions posted here on use of BS by you are either deleted or archived. Please retrieve and post it back. It is needed for easy access regarding on going discussions about HK falls particularly conduct issues that was brought-up by you while filing for mediation. Thanks Naadapriya (talk) 17:54, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

It has been archived by the bot as I already mentioned in the current AN/I. It is not allowed as far as I know to modify archived discussions. Nevertheless, you are free to start it again. It wouldn't have been archived if had replied to the questions I raised. Anyways, you can view the archived discussion here. If you want to restart it, you are free to do the same. As I have saying for a long time, I would like to see the back of this issue asap. Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 18:01, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

I meant here (your talk page) not AN/I. It is unfortunate that you are asking me to restart. Please stop making all go round and round. Please just post it back or provide link here to those discussions that you removed from your talk page regarding your use of BS till all issues are resolved. Please note to date I have not removed or modified any discussions on any page whether I agreed or not.Naadapriya (talk) 06:37, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I doubt if you do bother to read what others are saying. I did not ask you to start it again, but if you wish to start it, am not stopping you. It is not hard to see what am saying. Anyways, go to my archives and look for what ever you want. I don't have the habit of deleting messages, at least till now. You are free to take it anywhere you want to. I know I am within the rules. Ciao Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 08:32, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I would like to keep all discussion open on talk and discussion pages for wikipedia readers. Again I am requesting you to please post it back on your talk page at least till all issues are resolved. Thanks Naadapriya (talk) 16:39, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Remember it is my own will to keep it in archives or in a talk page. Wiki rules are that a talk page is a user's own unless he/she is removing block notices. FYI the message wasn't removed/deleted, but just in the archive. If you want to view it or link it to somewhere, be my guest and go through the archives. Nevertheless, remember that you can not advice me on what I can or cannot have on my talk page unless it is offensive or misleading. I once again recommend you to familiarise yourself with rules of wikipedia before asking anything from others. I do not think it is that hard to look into archives. Or is it? BTW what you are doing here comes under harrassement. If you didn't know that earlier, now you know that. So better stop it. OK? Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 17:19, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Hogenakkal-falls-aerial.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Hogenakkal-falls-aerial.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? VegitaU (talk) 00:21, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Hogenakkal-falls-aerial.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Hogenakkal-falls-aerial.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. GA Review of Dravidian parties

Unfortunately, Noble Story withdrew from the GA review process before concluding work on Dravidian parties; I am undertaking to conclude the review. As you might gather from my reviews of Sauropelta, Hippolyte de Bouchard, and SaarLorLux, I come from a rather thorough review school, and tend to devote a day or two on a nominated article. Noble Story has provided you with some feedback, to which you have responded, and which I hope will make my work all that quicker. As a first step, I will edit the talk page to move the Good article review material to a dedicated subpage, a practice that is being adopted by some reviewers of late. If you have any comments, issues or concerns about my effort, do raise them here or on my talk page. Take care. Gosgood (talk) 15:42, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I've concluded my review; though I believe you have done a great deal of valuable work on this article, I found the prose choppy, and couched in a vernacular that I found peculiar. I find the article reads like a first draft effort and recommend a second draft with an aim that I've outlined in my review comments. Particulars are on the review page. If you wish, you may have my review itself reviewed by independent-minded editors at the WP:GAR Good Article Review page. I think articles of this type are very important for Wikipedia; Indian democracy appears to run on very different dynamics than the American counterpart, an appreciation that can be better developed here in the States. Take care, and thank you for bringing this material to Wikipedia. Gosgood (talk) 01:42, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
