User talk:Wiki World

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dear Wiki World,

Welcome to Wikipedia!

Unfortunately, using your e-mail address as your username is not a good idea. Wikipedia content is extensively copied and the site itself is one of the most visited sites in the world. Any edit you make on Wikipedia will have your username attached to it, and using your email address will make you a tempting target for spammers. We recommend that you change your username at Wikipedia:Changing username in order to prevent abuse.

If you need any help, simply contact me on my talk page, or go to Wikipedia:Help desk. Another option is to place {{helpme}} on your own talk page, and someone will come shortly to help. Remember to sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~). Again, welcome!

[edit] Helpme request

Hello, you used the {{helpme}} tag. How may I help you? When you've asked your question, please put the tag back so we know to check back. Alternatively, you can join the Wikipedia Bootcamp IRC channel to get real-time help. (Use the web-based client to get instant access.) Luna Santin 03:01, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi Luna,

I inadvertantly used my e-mail address as my user ID, and I think its easier at this point to delete my account and all added content to start over from scratch. That way my e-mail address will not be all over the world in a matter of days. Please help.

Thanks. Winning edge@cox.net 03:04, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Gotcha -- thought that might be it. :) You have two options -- just start a new account, or make a request at WP:CHU. Either of those should work fine. Luna Santin 03:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
You've just got to head on over to WP:CHU, read the guide there, and make a request. Once your username is changed, your old name will no longer be visible. Luna Santin 03:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Moved it. Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/email 06:01, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
