Allan Robert Young (footballer)

I have moved this article to Allan Young - as it stood there was too much disambiguation in the title - very few people looking for him would have been able to find it. Qwghlm 11:30, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

English footballers

Hi, I see that you add articles on English footballers. I think that you should read this section of Manual of Style. Also, it'd be nice if you link dates of birth of players to articles on years. Jacek Kendysz 16:07, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, you are right. Category:Possibly living people seems to be better. Jacek Kendysz 10:49, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Ralph Birkett

Thanks for letting me know - I've added some additional details from an Arsenal book I have.

I also noticed you created Willie Young (footballer); to prevent confusion with the more famous footballer Willie Young, I would suggest moving it to Willie Young (Torquay United). What do you think? Qwghlm 22:21, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Have added a sentence to the one I created, linking back to the more famous one.

Rochdale F.C.

I've posted the Rochdale F.C. players category for deletion at WP:CFD. The instructions are on that page. Thanks! NawlinWiki 18:57, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Joe Wright (footballer)

The birth dates are inconsistent in Joe Wright (footballer). It says 1907 at the beginning of the bio, but gives the 1901 births category. 165.189.91.148 17:29, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

-Thanks, 1907 was right so have fixed the typo Markspearce

Dartmoor

Hi

I think I spotted an interest in Dartmoor from you (??). I've put a piece on the talk page but I am lookings for ways to improve the look of it and tidy it up. Looking at other Nat Parks like the Lakes made me think the page could be tidier if we created some categories - Dartmoor Rivers, Dartmoor Villages and then linked that to the Dartmoor page rather than the current list approach?

If you are not interested, sorry but otherwise it would be good to hear from you - cheers --Nigel (Talk) 12:18, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

I guess less do than "talk" about the idea. Only other person I know currently interested in the page (JonC) & I have had discussion about making it look more professional I guess. The long lists on there don't make it that attractive/easy to read. Plenty of other bits need doing too! Good to hear from you - cheers --Nigel (Talk) 13:17, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
And dawned on me to encourage & involve others should we have this on the Dartmoor talk page! Cheers --Nigel (Talk) 13:30, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Sydney Beaumont

Bastud. You beat me to it. Nice work. I'll add more to the article when I can, most of which will be adapted from a Blackpool FC book I have. Dudesleeper 22:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

-You're welcome!

Richard Logan

WikiGull said: Hi, have moved the page to Richard Logan (cricketer) to avoid confusion with a couple footballers of the same name. Have fixed the links on everything except your sandbox.

Thank you for moving the page, I hadn't realized that it had created a problem. As for my sandbox, don't worry, I'm not keeping that information forever as it is. Most of it is now available on the "still wanted" articles on my user page.

If I ever get to it, I may disambiguate the footballers further in the future, (ie, Richard Logan (footballer born 1988), Richard Logan (footballer born 1982)), depending on how I think it's going to work out stylistically.

Oh, and one more thing. Ho'way the Gulls! Bobo. 21:29, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Kenny Allen (footballer)

Hi! I stumbled upon this player when looking into the category of "my" club IFK Göteborg. As I never before had heard the name, and there are (and have been) generally very few foreign players in Swedish clubs, I looked a little closer into this, and I have found no trace of any Kenny Allen in any of the books and articles on IFK Göteborg. He is not mentioned in an article that lists all foreign players ever in IFK, and he is not found in any match record of the club. This page mentions IFK in his club career, but that is the only hit on Google. That page also has a different DOB than the article. Just wanted to tell you this as you started the article. :) – Elisson Talk 20:10, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Joseph Toner

Hi - thanks for letting me know - it was a good stub, I've added in some more information. One thing - I'm fairly sure that the national team fielded by the Irish Football Association since the 1921 partition of Ireland was known as "Northern Ireland" rather than "Ireland" (RSSSF seem to think so [1]) so I changed all the references in that article to reflect it. Qwghlm 13:37, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Bloody hell! I've created some wiki entries for some rubbish players in my time, but he takes the biscuit :) We Grimsby fans were not impressed by him. I'll have to do Antoine-Curier now... Sorry, I mean good work, keep it up! --Bedders

Crad Evans

Hi WikiGull - in the article about Crad Evans you've noted he's played for Woolwich Arsenal. I've checked allfootballers.com and my copy of Arsenal Who's Who and I can't find any player by that name. There is a Robert Evans who was at the club between September 1912 and August 1913 but he was born in North London and the only other team he played for was Clapton Orient. Do you have any citations for his time at Arsenal? It may well be he was on Arsenal's books but never played for them, which is why I can't find any reference to him... Qwghlm 13:00, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

OK - as it can't currently be cited I'm removing the Arsenal reference for now. If and when you can find a source for it then feel free to add it back in with a citation. PS When Googling for his name there are a lot of references to a Crad Evans Shield, which is an association football competition in Australia [2] - presumably the one and same? Football AID 15 October – 22 October

Steve Thompson

Care to share the source you used for his birthdate so that I can add his birthplace to his article? Thanks. - Dudesleeper 20:05, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

And does the book provide his place of birth as well? - Dudesleeper 20:14, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Excellent. I haven't heard of Thomson before now, but I'd rather put the info in since you have it to hand to save someone else having to search for it at a later date. Thanks for your efforts. - Dudesleeper 03:13, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

football clubs

Hi, thanks for the message. It's been an ongoing problem/debate at Talk:Manchester United F.C. about the nature of a football club - lots of (generally American users) often attempt to change the wording to "is". However, in British English usage, this is simply wrong. Consider the phrase "Torquay United were promoted", versus "Torquay United was promoted"; or "Torquay play Exeter next week" versus "Torquay plays Exeter next week". The latter are all examples of American usage - namely the use the singular - whereas the former represent the received English (British) usage. I have cited several sources on the Man Utd talk page linked above - and as you say pretty much every article about British football clubs uses this format. The implications go beyond football - Americans use the singular for band names ("Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American band") whereas British usage dictates the use of the plural ("Muse are a British band"). Hello, I have been invited to change the template on the project page, and have done so. I think this can keep everyone happy, or it can be refined if necessary. Please review the project talk page. Chris the speller 23:47, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Jimmy Richardson

Hello. Thanks for removing the info about Joe Richardson that was mistakenly added to the Jimmy Richardson article. I wondered how you know as much as you do about Jimmy. Just that my Dad (who is Jimmy's nephew) remembers Jimmy working for Leyton Orient in a non-playing role (possibly training) and he's pretty sure he worked in a factory after his football career ended. Do you know of any sources that could verify any of this? Thanks again, Jilly 14:47, 2 December 2006 (UTC) :oD

Hiya, I asked my Dad and he doesn't know of a Joe Richardson, so they definitely aren't closely related. I know that Jimmy's older brother John Richardson (my Grandad) played professionally and we're pretty sure he played for Oldham and possibly other teams. Jilly 18:32, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Replacing [Football Club F.C.|Football Club] with a template

I find typing Football Club quicker than typing [Football Club F.C.|Football Club] especially for a club such as Wolverhampton Wanderers or West Bromwich Albion; I think it looks neater as well! As Wikipedia allows it, I'm all for anything that reduces the number of keystokes I have to use with my one-finger typing. Not being an administator (just a passionate Southampton fan) I'm not sure if there are any rules about it. Likewise I can't see the point of putting years into wikilinks unless they are part of a full date - but other people link every year in an article. Again there don't seem to be any rules. I guess from your homepage that you are a Torquay fan - it looks like Saints might be playiong you in the FA Cup- Best of luck in the replay. Daemonic Kangaroo 13:11, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

I'll give that a try sometime - I'm always keen to learn how to edit Wikepedia most effieciently. I am also vehemently opposed to the vandals who can do nothing better than write nonsense or abuse about a club or player they don't like for some reason.Daemonic Kangaroo 19:13, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Bert turner

My mother who is Bert turners Grandchild has prompted me to contact you, i am Bert Turner's Great grandson. My mother Hazel Turner married and her name is Now Hazel Martin thus me being called Oliver Martin. We are trying to find out as much information as we can about Bert as we have never really known much about him? Would you be able to give me anymore info or tell me where you obtained this info from?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

kind regards,

Oliver —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Martinoliver (talk • contribs) 10:04, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

Hi, Thanks for your message. Got most of the information from a book I have on all footballers who played in the football league prior to the 2nd World War. Bert Turner was of interest to me as a Torquay United fan, hence setting up that page. If you find out more about him, please feel free to add to the page. WikiGull 10:26, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Book Name

Do you have the name of the book you got this info from? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Martinoliver (talk • contribs) 13:29, 15 December 2006 (UTC).

Edit count pages

Hello WikiGull! I noticed you made subpages concerning your edit count.
