Template talk:Wikicode

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please do not use this template. It refers to a proposal which was rejected and is no longer proposed. All editors are given permission by me, the creator of the template, to delete any use of this template in the article namespace on sight. Deco 17:27, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hello. I've changed "standard pseudocode" in the template to "proposed pseudocode". This is a more accurate description of Wikicode. Wile E. Heresiarch 14:51, 24 Sep 2004 (UTC)

It used to say something like that actually. I'm sorry if I jumped the gun a bit on changing it to standard. Derrick Coetzee 00:23, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Please don't delete the link

Please do not eliminate the link to Wikipedia: Wikicode in this template. This is the only reason this template even exists; I'd sooner delete the whole thing than that link. Although cross-namespace links are generally to be avoided, it's very important in this case. Derrick Coetzee 23:05, 27 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Revert

I've reverted the blanking of this template by Derrick Coetzee. Perhaps I go too far to call the blanking vandalism, but it is unjustified. The template is linked from 37 pages; all but a few are substantive use of "Wikicode".

I find it odd, but perhaps not too bizarre, that the creator of the template blanked it. However, nobody owns anything here; if you want it gone, you can always list it on Wikipedia:Templates for deletion. — Xiong (talk) 05:28, 2005 Mar 27 (UTC)

I blanked it because of violent opposition to the concept of wikicode. I didn't have time to remove the tag from all the articles using it, and I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to go that far. I still think some kind of standard pseudocode is the right thing, but nobody seems interested in the idea. I was hoping at least that the complaints and constant antagonism towards me would fall off if it weren't so visible to readers. Deco 20:26, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] TfD nomination of Template:Wikicode

[edit] Status

Is anyone familiar with the status of this template? To my knowledge, wikicode has not been adopted as a standard language for wikipedia. It is very confusing for readers to see a notice that says: "The following is wikicode, a proposed pseudocode for use in many articles." They would wonder what is wikicode? A proposed pseudocode?? So I have constantly been removing this template, as I suppose those are there for historical reasons. I don't have a strong position as to whether we should adopt some formalized pseudocode; I want to follow the majority. I don't want to be counterproductive, so please someone tell me what I should be doing :) -- Taku 08:24, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

The original point of the template was to link to a description of the language so that readers who don't understand it can learn more about it. It does somewhat break up the flow, though, and currently overstates the role of wikicode (as well as making lots of people angry at me). I think I'd feel best if all instances of the template were removed and I just used the language for my own personal editing. I can take care of it. Deco 16:48, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)
