[edit] Reference to July 2006 Beck Foundation

I would like to see exactly where it was stated that the Beck Foundation grant was not going to be used for printing of the content. While I can believe that the money given by the Beck Foundation was sucked up by WMF server costs, one of the reasons for people getting involved with Wikijunior was because there were going to be print editions paid for by the Beck Foundation. A very common assumption with the participants was that the money given by the Beck Foundation was only going to be used for printing costs, as trying to pull out operating costs of Wikijunior as a seperate project just didn't seem possible from an accounting perspective.

Frankly the whole Wikijunior project is a mistake compounded by a total lack of communication by those who "founded" the project and those who are actually working on it to create content. Danny Wool may be in negotiations to round up some more money, but I have not seen him working on any actual content nor have I seen him even communicate in any meaningful manner with Wikijunior participants including responding to legitimate questions over what exactly was involved with the Beck Foundation, or even what was in the contract with the Beck Foundation. Trying to even come up with which Beck Foundation gave the grant took some time and some very pointed criticisms, together with some very wrong guesses and wrong links, before that was even established. I'm still not exactly sure which Beck Foundation is involved although I can point to some that it is not.

BTW, Wikijunior participants are acting right now as if the Beck Foundation doesn't even exist if it ever existed and are ignoring any references to suggest that some money might be raised on behalf of that project. There have been some suggestions to integrate Wikijunior into Wikibooks more completely, as has happened on de.wikibooks already. --Robert Horning 13:36, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merge with Wikibooks/Notability question

Since the person who added the notability markup tag didn't mention anything here on this talk page, I feel it is reasonable to take it off with the same justification.... none at all.

At the same time, I would have to say that Wikijunior is notable as any other Wikimedia sister project, with the exception that it happens to be hosted on Wikibooks at the moment. The domain "wikijunior.org" is owned by the WMF, with the intention that it would be used in some future form as something similar to a "Wikipedia for kids" or something else. This domain registration makes this something a bit more notable than some other random Wikiproject. Wikijunior also has independent policies and community forums, and is unique for Wikimedia projects as the only WMF sister project to have recieved funding for the explicit purpose of hosting this project.

Wikijunior also has substantial cross-language development.

Justification for lack of notability is not a trait of Wikijunior. --Robert Horning 21:21, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Being a WMF project in itself isn't notable. I suggest this be merged into Wikibooks until it is properly launched providing it's notable. Computerjoe's talk 19:23, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
