Karel van Mander III (1610-1670). Oil on canvass from about 1665 depicting the Great Dane "Raro" given by King Frederick III of Denmark to princess Magdalena Sibylle. She was married to the crown prince Christian. The dwarf holding the Great Dane is the Italian Giacomo Favorchi. Karel van Mander was born in Holland, became a royal painter to King Christian IV of Denmark and died in Copenhagen 1670. The painting can be seen at the National Gallery of Art, Copenhagen.
