This category is used for administration of the Wikipedia project, and is not part of the encyclopedia. It contains pages which are not articles, or lists articles by status, rather than content.

"Functionary" means one who holds an office or a trust or performs a particular function; an official. This category contains subcategories of, and pages relating to, Wikipedia users who hold positions of trust or whom have extra responsibilities, the largest such group being administrators.

Such positions are normally granted and revoked either by the community in general, or at the discretion of another group of trusted users. For example, users become administrators through a successful adminship request, to which any user may contribute. Administrators may request voluntary removal of their status, or it may be involuntarily removed at the decision of the Arbitration Committee. Membership of the Arbitration Committee is in turn decided by elections in which any established user may vote.
