[edit] Wii System Updates merge

The System Updates alone can't be an article, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. A list of releases can be included in the article about the software itself, but not as a self article. -- ReyBrujo 02:45, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I added an intro paragraph to the Wii System Updates page. Also, why can't the system updates just be a separate page? It is essentially just a list. -Zomic13 18:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

The Playstation 3 has it's own firmware updates. This type of page would be too big for a normal article.--MrBubbles 01:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

WHy would you want to merge the pages? this was what i was looking for and it is perfect. Why must wiki be a biyatch all the time with these things? Juiceboyjeff

This was also just the perfect information i have been looking for —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.174.20.126 (talk) 11:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

PS3 doesn't have firmware. (As a side note.) Meanwhile, this page should just combine the two. Merge. --Son 04:51, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

PS3 doesn't have firmware lol what http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation_3_System_Software It shouldn't combine both. It's too big and shouldn't be compressed.--MrBubbles 12:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Did you not read the first line of the article? "PlayStation 3 System Software (プレイステーション3 システム・ソフトウエア, Pureisutēshon Surī Shisutemu Sofutouea?), sometimes referred to incorrectly as firmware, is updateable software and operating system for the PlayStation 3." Secondly, I don't believe the article would be too long. There are some very long articles out there, such as on WWII and List of DirecTV channels. Hence I support merging. It should be one article, not two. --Son 14:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

OH what the hell. I didn't see what it was going to be merged to. Yeah, I'm for it.--MrBubbles 19:17, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

(Merge.) I think that if this page is merged, it should atleast redirect, as both names are very useful in a search for either subject.  Doktor  Wilhelm  23:09, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi everyone. Your attention please. The reason I deleted (NOW MOVED) the comments is because they were irrelevant to the subject at matter. There were also some idiot/s swearing. Now from what I read many of you are mistaking the merge to be into the Wii article. It is not. The merge is because an editor recently created a Wii System Updates page with basically all the info we have on this page, but it contains more and in better detail. This is what we are asking a merge about, not into Wii, but merging this article and Wii System Updates. To be perfectly honest this merge has to happen, its like having two Tom Cruise articles.

My proposal:

  • MERGE
  • Name: 'Wii System Software' (in accordance with other seventh generation console articles, see Xbox 360 System Software and PlayStation 3 System Software.
  • Keep the information supplied by 'Wii System Updates', keep the table, delete this article's. That article has much better information and table layout. Merge intro paragraphs where possible.

Thanks and I hope everyone understands. JTBX 17:00, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

is if fair for you to delete everyone else's views, just because they don't match your own?  Doktor  Wilhelm  17:38, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
oh yeah, and I say MERGE, but someone'll need to take very special care of putting both articles together, also Wii System Updates need to be left to redirect to Wii System Software, as the name of the former will help people looking for this information!  Doktor  Wilhelm  17:48, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
You're right Doktor Wilhelm, lets keep it as it is. Enc Company Agent 23:27, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Two articles, exact same subject. Take the best from both articles, put it in the Wii System Software article, and have the other one redirect to Wii System Software. I fail to see the problem. MERGE VDZ 12:42, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
MERGE No need for two articles about the same topic. Neo Samus 21:55, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] So, who's going to merge the two articles?

I tried, but I don't know where to even start?  Doktor  Wilhelm  16:26, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

I'll do it.→041744 00:06, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Article concerns

This article (as well as the other system software articles) seem to lean strongly towards: What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_directory and Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_an_indiscriminate_collection_of_information. The content is useful, but listing every little update isn't useful in my view. RobJ1981 (talk) 04:58, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I've updated the table. I don't really see much difference at this point between this article, or the other articles listed under See Also. I'm also concerned that you'd tap this one for deletion, but not the others. --Son (talk) 18:30, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Listing every update included IS useful as it shows the progression of the console. The system and channel updates have now been split so its easier to read through and shows the evolution of the console 80.7.73.24 (talk) 11:58, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Version 3.2 is not out yet. I made the October 10th & December 10 updates 3.1 updates #1 & #2. Versus22 —Preceding comment was added at 19:33, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Check Mii Out Channel Update

The Check Mii Out Channel has been updated, details can be found Here, I'm sort of confusted about how to go about updating the table on this aricle, so could anyone else lend a helpinh hand?  Doktor  Wilhelm  18:37, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Done, we can edit around the basic copy-paste to make it better Chocobogamer (talk) 18:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
I've copied the better spelling and grammer over to Here, sorry about that...

[edit] minor/major

With 3.2, people keep changing the latest update to minor when it is a Major update. Nintendo release minor updates, they are kept on the SAME VERSION NUMBER. If it is a major update, the version number is increased. This update was from 3.1 (2nd update) to 3.2, therefore it was a MAJOR UPDATE!!

To prove the point, the 2.0 version of the software (in USA) had 3 MINOR updates before 2.2 came out (2.1 being PAL only) You have to realise that just because one thing is noticable doesnt mean its the ONLY update, there are performance updates and such, none of which are mentioned.

Stop changing it incorrectly. Chocobogamer (talk) 21:43, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of the Major/Minor Update Column

I removed the Major/Minor Update column because the only updates classified as "major" are those that have a different firmware version. It's redundant. Additionally, if any other update were to be classified as major it would either be a) because lots of new features were added (in which case it would be obvious) or b) because it is someone's opinion that a certain update is more valuable than the rest. -Zomic13 (talk) 03:57, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Update for Smash Bros. Brawl

It seems there's been a new update made since the last one, because when I inserted my SSBB disc, it required that I update before I could play. I know for a fact I had the February 25 software because the disc channel showed the "Update Required" image when I inserted the disc. Does anyone have any details about this update? STLocutus (talk) 16:29, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

The update is so that your Wii can receve messages from the Smash Service.--Megamanfan3 (talk) 12:34, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
I remember something similar with Mario Strikers Charged (PAL), I had the latest update on the console but the game installed a sort of mini update too. I have changed the details on the page to fit Chocobogamer (talk) 00:00, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IOS37 update now out for PAL region

IOS37 is also out for the PAL region, JP region is unknown. However the date the update was put onto the PAL servers is unknown (between 22nd March and today). See http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=IOS37 . 195.76.6.5 (talk) 11:44, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] About BBC iPlayer 'channel'

It's just a website which streams video with Flash, so the only requirement is the normal Internet channel, if you've already downloaded the Internet channel then no update is required. Therefore whoever placed the cross in the download column was right.

However it's debatable if it should be included as a channel at all as it's not a service provided by Nintendo, it's just a website which detects if you have a Wii and adapts the content accordingly. 195.76.6.5 (talk) 09:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

My understanding of it is that it's just a special website for Wii. If this is the case, then it has nothing to do with the Wii's system software and should be removed. -Zomic13 (talk) 18:02, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
