[edit] Plot Summary
Luigi De Angelis (Marcello Mastroianni) is a political activist who has to go into hiding from the authorities as he has been charged for murder. His wife, Antonia (Laura Antonelli) believes him dead. As she goes through his papers, she discovers his political writings as well as his former extramarital affairs. Whereas she had been considered frigid since their wedding night and has stayed subservient and inactive ever since, she starts undergoing a major change in her life. She takes over his business, publishes his writings, begins an affair with a young doctor and generally "becomes" the female analogue of her husband's personality. Luigi who is actually hiding in an abandoned room very close to his home, observes in amazement the change in his wife and realizes what he had missed all along.
