The station went on the air as WABU on 1993-05-28. on 1993-06-25, the station changed its call sign to WAVQ, on 1998-05-16 to WHGN, on 2000-10-11 to the current WIFL,[2]

On March 27, 2008, the station changed format to an adult standards music format focused on the music of Frank Sinatra.[1]
