[edit] Details

In 1986 the Widmer Brothers introduced their Hefeweizen to America and since then has gained much popularity throughout the states. Joe Casey is the company's brewmaster, noted for sporting a bald head and soul patch. Some people have mistakenly mentioned that Budweiser owns Widmer; this is not true. In the late 90's, Anheuser-Busch bought a stake in the company, approximately 25%, which allowed for greater distribution. The company is not fully operated by Kurt and Rob Widmer, it is part of the Redhook deal that links them more to Anheuser-Busch. Widmer Hefeweizen is difficult to find on the east coast, only select stores carry it.

Both Widmer Brothers and Redhook are 1/3 owned by Anheuser-Busch. Widmer Hefeweizen is in fact brewed by Widmer Brothers Brewery in NE Portland Oregon.

Redhook is headquartered in Seattle, WA, with operations in Woodinville, WA and Portsmouth, NH. Upon completion of the merger, the new company Craft Brewers Alliance will be headquartered in Portland, with offices in Seattle Washington.
