Widad Akrawi, (1969- ), is a Kurdish author, lecturer, senior lobbyist and human rights defender[1][2][3][4]. She was born in Akre, Iraqi Kurdistan and has been residing in Denmark since 1992. She earned a Civil Engineering degree from Salahaddin University in 1990. In Denmark she studied at the Technical University of Denmark and worked as a geneticist at the Royal Hospital in Copenhagen. Prior to her commitment to Defend International, she did volunteer work for Amnesty International until 2007. She quitted Amnesty Internationalin in June 2007. She is now collaborating with the International Action Network on Small Arms [5] and other organisations around the globe [6]. She has over 15 years of experience in the areas of human rights, international security, peace and international conventions.
