Talk:Why We Fight (Jericho episode)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johnston may expire in this one. Although I would like to see Anderson go, given the fact that Jericho is starting to have a trend of killing off good characters before they get a chance to truly develop. ITDEFX 14:39, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
I would be curious to see if it has anything to do with Eisenhower's speach on why we fight. It can be viewed here. Lowellriggsiam 04:57, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I also have the feeling that during the attack against Jericho, Hawking's will be be away from the bomb. When everything is all over and the coast is clear, Hawking's will find the bomb missing. Now that will be a good cliff hanger... who took the bomb and where is it now?!?!?!
ITDEFX 22:11, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Being that only Hawkings and Jake are the only ones that know where the bomb is, and Hawkings family are the only others in Jericho that know that it even exists, one could easily narrow the scope. Your point conceeded, it would make for a cliff hanger. Still no official word on if the series will get picked up again, just rumors. 68.185.46.5 17:17, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Well think of this... Sara's contacts already knew that she made contact with Robert in Jericho... They *think* Robert is dead and playing along with Sara (Robert) playing around with them. Perhaps they were waiting for some sort of distraction to go in and get the bomb. The New Bern attack against Jericho could be what they are looking for. If I wanted to get something like that without someone noticing me, I would use a distraction like that to pull it off.
Only one more week til we find out if my cliffhanger theory is true. ITDEFX 23:42, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Well since we haven't heard anything from CBS about a second season...I think the writers predicted that there might not be a second season so they tried to wrap things up nicely. If there was a no second season, a voice over epilogue by Heather could just tell us what happened.ITDEFX 23:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
The promo for next week shows Heather alive and in good shape. She appears to be in a city that has good connections to the rest of the country as she is seen viewing the new American Flag.74.69.159.42 01:07, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes I picked that up too.. Did anyone get a count on how many STARS were on the flag? My guess is the country has merged many of the states, example, West Virginia and Virginia are now Virginia, North and South Carolina are now Carolina, same with the Dekota states. The new England states might have just merged into one state calling. Doing this might be a way of bringing American's back together as a whole nation. I don't understand the symbolzium of the red and white stripes going up and down. In any case that kind of shift in the flag status is too soon. ITDEFX 01:50, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Hardly.--Kamikaze 18:47, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Well excuse me... it wasn't til someone posted in the other episode page about the Civil Flag part that I knew about the other flag. Until someone can theorize on the star reduction cause (can't be 6 stars to represent 6 territories) but then again the stripes represent the original colonies. There has got to be an explanation on reduction of stars. ITDEFX 23:24, 3 May 2007 (UTC)I suspect you'll find the answer has to with the the Morse Code that was present from Episode 10-13. A history of Bleeding, KS might provide more clues as to where the series is going in Season 2- Anonymous
Could the stars represent each destroyed city?
hmmm.......... interesting thought.68.227.212.123 04:03, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
oops I think that Jericho just started shooting at the US Government, which seems corrupt (I expected HHS secretary Charles) to become President.68.37.229.165 01:02, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I was worried about this too, but if the helicopters just overflew Hawkins how could the trucks have gotten there quicker? I also would have expected the military would be smarter than to just take up firing positions -- use the helicopter to warn the citizens that the US Army is present and is there to prevent the skirmish and will fire on anyone who makes hostile moves. I think that the army is going to catch New Bern in the cross fire and wipe them off the face of the map.--Jwsmiths 12:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Army
That civil flag is wrong; the stars should be red on a white field. In any case, I dont think that army is from reunited United States.A305w 01:06, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
How is it "wrong"? Although I believe there is a flag which matches your description in existence (can't remember which group/stance it is in relation to - please chip in with it if you know!) this is Science Fiction - there isn't anyway it can be wrong unless it breaks a rule the creators have set themselves. Indeed, if anything, I believe it's a good thing that the decision was made to use a new design as otherwise it could confuse with the symbols connotations in reality. - Earl_CG 09:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
I meant that if they intended to use the real deal properly, then it is wrong. In a sci-fi series, you are correct and I should have worded my comment better. Mea culpa. Here is a link to the flag in question. Not red stars, blue. I shouldn't type while tired. http://www.barefootsworld.net/uscivilflag.html A305w 12:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Status of the Country
From what we can tell, it would look like civil war has already broken out between the senators and that Senator Tomarchio has a greater military and political power over the other factions. From the video conference looks like a military operation is well underway to pound any resistance to Tomachio's authority. The flag could now represent who is on his side. ITDEFX101 03:28, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- That was my take as well. A305w 12:52, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kassim Osgood
I think he should be removed from guest stars, perhaps moved to a trivia section (except trivia is bad). A whole 10 seconds of screen time doesn't really make him a notable guest star - he wasn't even credited in the opening credits. -- Chuq (talk) 09:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. Don't like the idea of adding non-encyclopaedic (non-notable) trivia. Matthew 09:46, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Technical Goof?
Since when does Military Keyhole satellites provide over the hill live feeds? I thought all satellites do top down views? ITDEFX101 19:23, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think the technology was introduced at the same time that they concentrated every single resource necessary to maintain order and government in a centuries-old democratic world power, population 300+ million, in (checking the current count) twenty-three U.S. cities. (sarcastic grin) --Ckatzchatspy 20:26, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- what did you say?!?!? so now sats can give you an over the hill look??!?!? ITDEFX101 21:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- No, weak attempt at humour actually. Personally, I think it is a bit of a stretch to accept that a democratic nation of over 300 million people will fall apart after an attack on the scale of what is portrayed in Jericho. (Chaos, confusion, yes - but a complete collapse of the economy, manufacturing, and so on?) However, given that we already have to suspend disbelief for that somewhat unlikely scenario, we might as well play along with the producers and pretend that satellites can tap dance for Robert. (Is it correct? Probably not - but then, how often does a hacker conveniently provide a real-time status report to let you know how close he/she is to compromising your computer?) --Ckatzchatspy 21:40, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

- Well, remember, we're not seeing the rest of the US. Jericho is in a very isolated, rural area. The mass panic and food shortages that would have inevitably occurred, especially in urban areas, would've been a challenge for a small country, much less one the size of the United States. The communications blackouts following the EMP would further compound the situation. The government's priorities would've been to restore order to more populated areas -- a small town like Jericho, as far as it is from any major population center, would put it far down on the list. --216.54.8.243 19:57, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cliff Hanger
Me, as for myself, now that the government troops are in the area, the outside world no longer would seem to be so far away. The story lines always focused on their surviving durring isolation. Now that they are no longer going to feel isolated, how could the story viably continue? I don't quite see that it could just focus on Hawkins. I believe that it would have been better left with them in isolation, feuding with Newbern ? Some of the greatest things were when they came accross information like at the Black Jack fairgrounds and got a food drop from China.
68.185.46.5 03:01, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- I had read somewhere that the second season is going to focus on the rebuilding of the country. That would be more uplifting than if the series went into territory a la S.M. Stirling's Dies the Fire novel series, focusing on constant battles and showing how ragtag communities survive. On another note, I know it's only been six months since the attacks, but I'm surprised they haven't heard word of other countries' attempts to annex parts of the border territories. RahadyanS 21:17, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Because it appears that the rest of the world is in tact, that alone would likely be enought to stop another empire from attaining the border areas, however it would sure create alot more conflict.68.185.46.5 01:46, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Video Conference
Ok.. during the video conference scene, you see 4 people who the guy is talking to. Two of them are wearing military uniforms, one looks like a senator and the other of course is Valente. Can anyone tell the rank of these military officers? Information given:
"I-80 is secured from Chyannen to Grand Island(?).We now control the area between Carney and Hastings. I-70 is turning out as a challenge. There are organized road gangs patrolling much of the interstate." ITDEFX101 03:32, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Are they trying to stabilize the region for there cause?
- I think so. WQyoming is realtively close to western Kansas, so I'd say that region to trying to extend its control. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by A305w (talk • contribs) 15:31, 11 May 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Valente's Orders
Correct me if I am wrong, but can a member of the DHS give a military officer an overriding order like that? We know that Tomarchio Suspended Posse Comitatus Act which allows the military to now get involved in elections. Has Valente been made Vice President? ITDEFX101 03:32, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- Just because he was the DHS secretary prior to the attacks doesn't mean that he still is the DHS secretary. It's possible that he's the defense secretary or even vice president of this new "United States". --70.160.31.251 03:13, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
didn't I just say something like that? God we need a second season to know what the hell is going on with the countryITDEFX101 02:34, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Not jumping to conclussions
I know alot of fans are jumping to conclussions on what alot in this episode meant, but please keep in mind anything not a 100% fact from the show needs to not be included as such on wikipedia as that falls under point of view or original research. Sure the soldiers say they're from the U.S. goverment and all is well and good, but unless a show creater states that's true or we see next season we don't know that. It is best to say things like "The soldiers claim to be with" as opposed to "the soldiers are with the US government". Jericho is after all 1 part mystery and alot of 'facts' so far have been deliberatly misleading, so it's foolish to think one or two things we are led to believe in this episode won't be found to be so in future episodes. So keep in mind, no matter how much you believe something is true, unless the show unequivocally says so or someone on the writing or production staff goes on record as saying such, it needs to be left off of Wikipedia or written in such a way that it's clear to the reader their is mystery in if it's true or not.
[edit] Other Countries
It would be interesting to find out if the series is going to end the same way when it airs in countries that haven't yet run it.
[edit] Not The End After All
It appears that after CBS's mailboxes (both email and snail mail) filled up and they received over 32,000LBS of nuts (primarily from nutsonline) they are currently interested in uncanceling it. The story can be read here.
- Netwoks don't care about peanuts, but money. So if each peanut was a dollar bill... than we'd be getting somewhere. For now, you can keep your stinking legumes.
