[edit] AfD nomination of Chez paul

I have nominated Chez paul, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chez paul. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. ukexpat (talk) 20:22, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your message on my talk page. I confess I am not sure how to "close" the AfD process - but I am sure someone will very soon. When it is closed, you can use the "Move" function (see the tab at the top of the article page) to rename it with the correct capitalisation. Do not copy and paste rather than move -- that is bad form on WP!  – ukexpat (talk) 21:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User Page goodies

Responding to your message on my talk page. I just clicked on your message bar link and it seems to have worked! As far as the status bar stuff goes, here's the "how to":

  • Create two new user sub-page called /Status and /StatusTemplate.
  • In /Status, add the following: {{User:Whughes98144/StatusTemplate|xxx}} - the xxx is a switch that you edit to either in, out or busy (there is a script that automates that editing which we will come to later.
  • /StatusTemplate contains the code that displays the user status on relevant pages - I copied mine from another user. For some reason I cannot paste the code here in a comprehensible form, but if you go to User:Ukexpat/StatusTemplate and go into edit mode, you should be able to copy the code, then paste to your /StatusTemplate subpage making sure you change the ref to ukexpat to your user name.
  • That's the basics, but to make the editing of the /Status subpage easier, there is a script you can add to your default javascript page. Assuming you are using the default "skin" for Wikipedia (ie you have not changed it in your WP Preferences) you will find that at User:Whughes98144/monobook.js. Edit that page and add the following text: importScript('User:Misza13/statusChanger.js'); (bold for emphasis, include all punctuation except the bold coding.) Then, save the page and do a complete cache flush on your browser (usually done by holding down the shift key while refreshing the page). If you have done it correctly you should now see three additional links in your WP menu at the very top of every page, "in", "busy" and "out". Clicking on one of these will initiate the script to automatically edit your /Status page with the appropriate status and thus changing the icon at the top of the page.
  • Now, I don't know how well that script works in Internet Explorer, I am a Firefox user and it works fine in that browser.....just checked and it does appear to work in IE.
  • On the subject of scripts etc, there are some useful tools that you can enable by adding further scripts to your monobook.js page. The one I use a lot is User:Lupin's popup script, now enabled as a WP gadget -- see Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation_popups

I guess that's it for now. Let me know how it goes!  – ukexpat (talk) 14:40, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
