Twelve-year-old Megin explains the difficulties with her older brother, while he offers another side of the story. It is a book about sibling rivalry. This book shows how two siblings cope with each other and how one tragedy showed them how much they really cared about each other.

- The characters Megin and Greg are based on Spinelli's real life children Molly and Jeffrey.
- Leo Borlock, who would later be the main character in Stargirl is mentioned in this novel as a person who everyone goes to for advice.[1]
