"Who's Afraid of Wolf 359?" is a science fiction short story published in 2007 by Ken MacLeod. It has been nominated for the 2008 Hugo Award for Best Short Story.[1]
[edit] Plot summary
The story follows a man who is running from security officers on a space station after he was caught having an affair with the station's owner. He is apprehended and fined a very large amount of money. To pay off his huge debt, he accepts a dangerous and time consuming assignment to find out what happened to an experimental colony around the red dwarf Wolf 359. When he arrives, he finds that the remains of the space habitats have been used to create a new planet, before helping the barbaric inhabitants save themsevles from destruction and found a new galactic empire.
