A studio album from Whitney Houston has been tentatively scheduled for release in November 2008.[1] This will be Houston's seventh studio album for Arista Records, and her first collaboration with her mentor Clive Davis in eight years.[2]
[edit] Production history
In 2004, after Houston performed at a tribute for Clive Davis, the two announced plans for a new album to be released in 2005. However, no further updates would surface, and instead Houston appeared in then-husband Bobby Brown's reality show Being Bobby Brown.
After stints in rehab, Houston divorced husband Bobby Brown and gained custody of her daughter in 2006. Davis announced in March 2007 that Houston would enter the studio. Houston spent the rest of the year recording new material. Davis initially announced to JET Magazine that the album would be released in the spring of 2008, but the release has since been delayed to late 2008.
In March 2008, Davis said that four songs have been decided on, including tracks featuring Akon, will.i.am, and Sean Garrett.[3] "We're not going to compromise who she is to fit into today's hip-hop radio market," Davis said. "The public wants Whitney material."
Songs under consideration for the album include "Nothing But Love"[4], "Never Give In" [5], "Open Your Eyes"[6] and "I Didn't Know How Much Strength I Had", composed by Diane Warren[7]. Producer Eric Lee Hudson is reported to have worked on tracks for the record.[8]
A ballad called "Look To You", written and produced by R. Kelly, surfaced on YouTube in January 2008 and is supposedly also being considered for her new record. Finally, Timbaland, The Clutch and Jim Beanz have also contributed a track, "Undefeated" that may appear on the album. [9]
