Whitingham is a town in Windham County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,298 at the 2000 census. Whitingham is the birthplace of Brigham Young, the Mormon prophet and founder of Salt Lake City, Utah. Whitingham is also the headquarters of the North Atlantic Conference.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.3 square miles (101.8 km²), of which, 37.1 square miles (96.0 km²) of it is land and 2.2 square miles (5.8 km²) of it (5.70%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,298 people, 515 households, and 371 families residing in the town. The population density was 35.0 people per square mile (13.5/km²). There were 802 housing units at an average density of 21.6/sq mi (8.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.23% White, 0.08% African American, 0.31% Native American, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.69% of the population.

There were 515 households out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.8% were non-families. 22.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $37,434, and the median income for a family was $45,500. Males had a median income of $30,590 versus $25,188 for females. The per capita income for the town was $21,904. About 5.9% of families and 7.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.5% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those age 65 or over.
