[edit] Crew Information

The Whitebeard Pirates are divided into 16 divisions of one hundred men, each led by a high ranking Whitebeard subordinate. The Whitebeard pirates are famous for taking the concept of camaraderie to a very high level. Whitebeard considers all of his crew members as his sons, and will avenge anyone who attacks them — a reason why most pirates greatly fear angering any of the Whitebeards. Whitebeard also strongly believes that every sailor upon the seas must have a code of morals to guide themselves by, in stark contrast to the conniving Blackbeard, whose urge to survive at all costs guides his life.

[edit] Notable Members

[edit] Whitebeard (Edward Newgate)

Captain

Edward Newgate (エドワード・二ューゲート, Edowādo Nyūgēto, Ward Newgate in One Piece: Grand Adventure), AKA: Whitebeard (白ひげ, Shirohige) is widely regarded as the world's strongest pirate in the One Piece world. According to Buggy the Clown, he is the pirate closest to obtaining the legendary treasure, One Piece. Whitebeard clashed with the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and was considered his equal in combat.

He first appears when Red-Haired Pirate Crew member Rockstar delivers a letter from Shanks. Whitebeard tears up the letter without reading it, which angers Rockstar, but he is told by Shanks not to worry about it, as it's no big deal. When Whitebeard is next seen, Shanks has broken a Navy blockade and boarded his ship. They have a brief conversation regarding Blackbeard and the two pirates then clash, splitting the clouds above them when their swords connect. Newgate regards anyone in his crew as his 'son' and he sees himself as something of a father figure, his crew even refer to him as their 'father'.

Whitebeard, like some other characters in One Piece, has a distinct laugh he uses, his being "Gurararara..."

In the One Piece: Unlimited Adventure video game, he is one of the optional Bosses in the game. After defeating him, you can play as him in either Survival, or Vs. Mode.

His name comes from the name of the real Blackbeard, "Edward Teach".[1]

[edit] Marco

1st Division Commander

Marco - (マルコ Maruko) is the 1st Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates was first introduced during the meeting between Whitebeard and Rockstar in Chapter 234 of the manga. He answers Rockstar's question about his popularity with a resounding "no." Shanks asks him to join his crew when he boards Whitebeard's ship. He is skinny, and showed no emotions besides when he told Shanks to "Shut up" in a loud voice.

[edit] Portgas D. Ace

2nd Division Commander

Portgas D. Ace (ポートガス・D・エース - Pōtogasu D. Ēsu, Portgaz D. Trace in edited English Dub, Portgaz D. Ace in English Manga) is the 2nd Division Commander of Whitebeard Pirates and Monkey D. Luffy's older brother who left Fūsha Village three years before Luffy did. He first appears in the Drum Kingdom, searching for Blackbeard and Luffy. He has powers of the Devil Fruit Mera Mera no Mi (Flare Flare Fruit, English Anime) (Flame Flame Fruit, English Manga) that allow him to manipulate, control, absorb, generate, create, and transform into fire. It is due to this that he is given the title "Fire Fist Ace" (Hiken no Ēsu, Trace Heat Fist in dub, Flame Fist Ace in One Piece: Unlimited Adventure.) Ace spends most of his appearances searching for the former Whitebeard pirate Marshall D. Teach, who killed one of his own crew mates. Ace finally confronts Teach on the island of Banaro, and the two engage in a furious battle. Despite his formidable abilities, Ace is defeated and taken to Impel Down, a place where villains are tortured (near Enies Lobby). The Biblicard he gave to Luffy in the Alabasta arc was burning when it was last seen, an effect Lola explains to mean the owner's life is fading away. In Chapter 501, it is confirmed that the government has set a date for Ace's public execution. This news is likely to start a war (as said by Red Flag X Drake).

Like other members of his family, Ace is narcoleptic and falls asleep without warning, making passers-by wonder whether he has dropped dead. Ace's most recognizable features are his tattoos. His back bears the Whitebeard symbol–a skull with a white mustache superimposed over a manji. To eliminate confusion between the Buddhist manji and the Nazi swastika, the manji was changed to white crossbones in the animated version and in later versions of the manga. Ace has another tattoo on his upper left arm that reads "ASCE" with the "S" crossed out. In 4kids dub, the "ASCE" was edited out.

In a recent Japanese fan poll, Ace was ranked as the tenth most popular character, making him the third most popular character outside the Straw Hat crew.[2] In the previous poll, he was ranked higher by fans, placing at eighth[3]. Ace is 185 centimeters tall(6ft 1in) and his birthday is January 1st[4].

[edit] Jozu

3rd Division Commander

Jozu (ジョズ - Jozu) is the 3rd Division Commander of Whitebeard Pirates, and observed the meeting between Rockstar and Whitebeard during Chapter 234. He's an incredibly large human not unlike the Kairiki Destroyers of the Franky Family or his own captain.

[edit] Thatch

4th Division Commander

Thatch (サッチ - Sacchi) is the 4th Division Commander of Whitebeard Pirates. He is killed by Blackbeard because he possesses the Devil Fruit Yami Yami no Mi, which Blackbeard had been searching for. He appeared as a blonde-haired man with a slicked-up hairstyle and black goatee.

His name "Thatch" is one of the names the real Blackbeard was known by. [1]
