[edit] History

White Sierra is a family-owned brand located in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County. The company was founded in 1979 by Grace and Paul Tsui. Sons Larry and Alex joined the business in the 90s and are still involved with Sourcing and Finance. [1] White Sierra presently has more than 30 employees in its California headquarters.

The name White Sierra was chosen for the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a range known for its wild and rugged beauty, and a favorite recreation destination within a moderate distance of the company’s Bay Area location.

White Sierra is recognized for the high quality of its finished goods, feature filled outerwear and accessible prices.[2] In addition to the company’s winter and snow apparel offerings, UPF sun protection shirts and convertible trail pants have been continuously offered for almost two decades.

In 2004 White Sierra opened an office in Shanghai, China. Working with the team in Sunnyvale, Larry Tsui has been expanding the brand’s presence at retail in China. [3]

[edit] Innovation

White Sierra has received recognition for its Happy Planet line of Earth Friendly apparel utilizing performance fabrics that have a lesser impact on the earth[4]. [5] These include sportswear made from White Sierra’s bamboo Bam Bam Weave™, Hemp and linen blends, organic cotton and the Soda Bottle Shirt™ made from recycled polyester.

With a collection of clothing that incorporated "happy planet" fabrics such as recycled polyester, linen blends and bamboo (a plant that regenerates rapidly without the use of pesticides or fertilizers), White Sierra has earned its spot on the earth-friendly list. Her Sports Magazine, March 2008
