Whit's End
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whit's End is the centerpiece of the radio series Adventures in Odyssey, founded, owned, and operated by John Avery Whittaker. Its name is a pun reflecting the Whittaker's nickname. Though it is best known as an ice cream eatery, its diversity of history and uses play an important role in AIO.
[edit] What is "Whit's End"?
In episode #77, "The Nemesis, Part 1", Whit read the goals his late wife Jenny established for Whit's End (as originally revealed in episode #19, "Recollections"). "Whit's End is designed to be a place of discovery and adventure, filled with books and activities, fun and games, arts and crafts, and uplifting conversation. But most of all, it is a place where kids of all ages can just be kids." At the present, there are three Whit's Ends; one is in Odyssey, another at Focus on the Family's headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a third in Connelsville.
Although the front area of the Odyssey Whit's End is devoted to the ice cream counter and seating, the large, multi-story building, which is styled as a Victorian house, contains a number of other important rooms. These include:
- Whit's office
- Computer room
- Library
- Bible Room
- Little Theater
- Basement, with Underground Railroad secret tunnel
- Whit's workshop
- Secret room #1 (location of the skeletal remains of Spencer Barfield)
- Secret room #2 (location of the first clue to the final treasure of Henri Le Monde)
- the Kitchen
- the Atrium
- the Room of Consequences
- KYDS Kids Radio studio
- the model train room
- Inventors' Corner
