Whirinaki is a small settlement in the northern Hawke's Bay Region of New Zealand's eastern North Island. It lies close to the junction of State Highways 2 and 5, and is best known for one of Hawke's Bay's biggest industrial plants, a combined sawmill and TMP pulp mill. More recently, Whirinaki has also become home to a state owned standby power station[1] operated by Contact Energy.
