WHIZ (AM)

WHIZ (1240 AM) is a full service station in Zanesville, Ohio broadcasting at 1240 kHz. It began broadcasting with 100 watts in July, 1924. Known then as WALR, the station broadcast at 1210 kHz. In 1939, the call letters were changed to WHIZ and the power was raised to 250 watts. The power was boosted to 1,000 watts in 1950. The station is presently owned by the WHIZ Media Group.
