[edit] Whiz kid vs. know-it-all

The opening graf of this article is, "The whiz kid is a stock character who is notably intelligent, but typically lacking in physical strength."

Funny, but I didn't think that a know-it-all was synonymous. While indeed they may share some characteristics, I understood a know-it-all to be, according to Webster's New World College Dictionary 4th ed., "Pretending or claiming to know much about almost everything." That is, someone who flaunts his/her supposed knowledge about a given subject, when that knowledge may in fact be limited or lacking in certain areas.

A "whiz kid," on the other hand, is someone as described in this article – "someone who is notably intelligent." In addition, these people often possess the knowledge they purport to have.

Oh, and it makes relatively little difference whether the person is male or female. Men can be "know-it-alls," while females can be "whiz kids," and so on.

I will revise this article somewhat to reflect what I have just said. If a new article needs to be created, then go ahead and do so. [[Briguy52748 21:42, 28 December 2005 (UTC)]]

"Geek" is not necessarily derogatory. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Quendus (talkcontribs)

Not now, but it once was a term of insult (and before that, referred to a sideshow attraction). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Noclevername (talkcontribs) 18:49, 10 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Stewie Griffin

Could Stewie Griffin from family guy be included as a fictional wizz kid. it is too disbuted whether what he is saying is really being said. sorry for being picky but you know. why not? i didnt what totake it off because of i did not what to go aginst the majority thinks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.19.154.142 (talk • contribs)

[edit] Stewie Griffin

I don't think Stewie Griffin reallly counts as a Whiz kid. I removed him but if anybody feels he should be included please comment.

[edit] Daniel Jackson?

"Although Daniel Jackson is an adult, he often takes to amazing events with an almost childlike sense of awe. He also fulfills several of the stereotypes relating to whiz kids, such as wearing glasses and being nerdy (the latter is especially true of him in the Stargate film.) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiz_kid"

I don't think this has any relevance to the article, not to mention the fact that it is an opinion. Should it be removed?

Half the names on that list don't belong there. It needs an overhaul. Noclevername 18:50, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
