Whelan's (music venue)

Whelan's is a intimate but prestigious music venue in Dublin, Ireland, located on Wicklow Street.

The venue and pub was initially started by Gary Whelan and Ian Keith in 1989 and ten years later was bought by Frank Gleeson. It is famed as a hang out spot for local musicians and actors. The venue's existing layout itself includes two levels, a main ground floor surface with an overlooking balcony, with a combined capacity of approx 400 in a very intimate manner.

Many great artists played there including Jeff Buckley, Arctic Monkeys, Damien Rice, Nick Cave, Bloc Party, The Frames, David Kitt, Paddy Casey, Idlewild, Josh Ritter, Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club, The Cribs, Digsy Deary, Shed Seven, The Twang, Christy Moore and many more.
