Wheat Ridge High School is a “high” achieving school as rated by the Colorado Department of Education. Wheat Ridge has a rich tradition of academic and athletic excellence in Jefferson County. The school has graduated 141 National Merit Finalists, 28 Boettcher Scholars and four Fred Steinmark Award recipients. In addition to strong academic achievements, athletics, marching band, visual and performing arts, and competitive speech programs continue to excel, receiving state and national recognition.

[edit] Marching Band

In 1996, the Wheat Ridge High School marching band earned first place in the state marching competition. The selection of music included Hindemouth, Bernstein, and Bartok. The color guard received 1st place in the visual category. The marching band also took first in 1993. The band managed to place in state finals for 13 years straight before breaking the streak in 2006, only managing to place quarter finalists.
