Eyes That See in the Dark What About Me?

What About Me? is the title of a 1984 album by Kenny Rogers, released by RCA.

After success in 1983 with the album Eyes That See in the Dark (which featured songs composed by The Bee Gees exclusively for Rogers), Rogers career had now been at the top for at least 8 years as a solo act. While the critics were mixed about his brand of Country/Pop/AOR, it seemed to go down well with the fans and his singles and albums charted across the board, even if one critic did describe What About Me? as "cold and clean, typifying the worst in mid-'80s adult contemporary". [1]

The albums title track, "What About Me?", is sung in trio with soul singer James Ingram and Rogers former New Christy Minstrels bandmate turned solo star Kim Carnes, which is a love song that reached #1 on the AOR charts and was also a pop and country hit. Elsewhere on the album is "Two Hearts, One Love" (a very commercial sounding song that makes the most of its production) "The Stranger" (a story song in the vein of Rogers previous hits such as "The Gambler" and "Lucille"), "The Night Goes On" (a R&B influenced ballad) and "Crazy" (a song Rogers co-wrote with Richard Marx, which is a typical Kenny Rogers love song in the style of "Through The Years" that also charted and gave Rogers yet another #1 hit.

Though this album didn't enjoy the success of his previous albums, What About Me? was a hit with its strongest showing being #9 on the Country music album charts during a chart run of nearly a year.
