Whale Fest
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whale Fest is a celebration of local marine wildlife, specifically cetaceans, held every November in Sitka in the U.S. state of Alaska.
Guest speakers and researchers are brought to Sitka for a weekend of whale watching cruises, presentations, sea chantey concerts, a road race beginning at Sitka's Whale Park, and a mini-marine art show. The University of Alaska Southeast offers credit for taking part in the symposium and local Sheldon Jackson College marine biology students also take part.
For Whale Fest '06, which is scheduled to be held November 3–November 5, 9 researchers are lined up with some of the following presentations:
- "Mammal Eating Killer Whales in Hood Canal, Washington"
- "Managing Leviathan: Can The Whaling Industry Be Trusted?"
- "Doing Aerobics While Holding your Breath: How Seals Dive"
