WGZR is a country music formatted radio station targeted towards Savannah and Hilton Head known as "Country 106.9". At one time the station was on 104.9, which did not provide as strong a signal.

[edit] History

The station signed on 107.1 in 1988 as a class A adult standards WLOW-FM, and at some point in the early 1990s became WHHR-FM "The News and Conversation Station". In 1995, Adventure Radio purchased the station and upgraded it to a class C1 station. In 1996, it became WIJY, smooth jazz "Joy 106.9". In 1998, the station became Modern AC and then flipped to Modern Rock as "Wave 106.9" in 2000. Also in 2000, Triad Broadcasting purchased all Adventure Radio stations. The station flipped again in 2002 to Hot AC before flipping to Adult Album Alternative in 2003; that same year, 104.9 and 106.9 flipped formats.

It was known as "Gator 106.9" until the week of March 12, 2007 when the station rebranded itself. WGZR again rebranded itself in late April 2008, from "Lucky Dog Country 106.9" to "Country 106.9".
