[edit] I Loved This Station

I moved to Richmond in 1974 and immediately discovered WGOE. Wow. During the four years I lived there, WGOE introduced me to John Fahey and Peter Lang, Robert Palmer, Little Feat, Paula Lockhart, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Armitrading, Tom Petty, and more. I moved in 1978 to Chicago (and discovered WXRT), not returning to Richmond until 1980. The Strawberry Street Cafe was still there, but WGOE was gone. RIP.

Me too. This was the music of my youth. I remember exposure to the artists mentioned above when you couldn't hear this stuff anywhere. My loves were in some different directions, including Roxy Music, Eno, Allman Bros. (before they were huge), Humble Pie, Lou Reed and the Dead (regularly played on the radio!). Station was big into Yes, again, well ahead of the curve. Wonderful, wonderful station.
