WGHT's current format began in 1964, after operating as WKER from 1964 to 1993. In this incarnation, the station played a major part in the 1960's AM Radio Sensation Days and is one of America's radio stations responsible for the creation of the BIG NEW YORK CITY AM RADIO SOUND. As WKER, this radio station served as a test market station for radio stations like WABC in the 1960's.

WGHT has the only live local working news department in Northern New Jersey radio. WGHT's News Department has been honored with dozens of awards for outstanding news coverage from the Associated Press, New Jersey Broadcasters Association and the National Association of Broadcasters. WGHT Radio broadcasts local high school sports, such as football, boys and girls basketball, softball and baseball on the weekends. WGHT's afternoon drive DJ is well known Looney Skip Rooney from the Uncle Floyd Show. Jon Fass is WGHT's Sports Director along with Marco Balletti.
