WFCU Centre

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The WFCU Centre, or Windsor Family Credit Union Centre, is a future 6,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Windsor, Ontario Canada. The working project was known as the "Eastside Arena," [1] until September 10, 2007, when a naming rights deal was announced with WFCU for $1.62 Million CDN. [2] It will eventually replace Windsor Arena, as home to the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. The WFCU Centre will also host the 2009 OHL All-Star Classic.

Windsor city council approved the project on October 5, 2006. [3][4] The arena will be located on 40-acre site with 2,500 free parking spots near the Lear plant on Lauzon Road, by the Forest Glade settlement. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on January 22, 2007. [5] The arena is scheduled to be open for the 2008-09 OHL season, at a cost of $62 Million CDN. [5]
