Westwood Regional School District

The Westwood Regional School District is a comprehensive regional public school district serving the communities of the Borough of Westwood (2000 Census population 10,400; 1,395 students) and the Township of Washington (population 9,800; 1,265 students) in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States.[1] These two communities are located approximately fifteen miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan. The majority of parents are engaged in professional and managerial occupations with incomes in the middle and upper-middle brackets.

The district serves approximately 2,700 students and includes four Kindergarten - grade 4 neighborhood schools, a 5th-6th grade upper elementary school, and a junior-senior high school for grades 7 - 12. With 2,663 students and 206.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), the district has a Student / Teacher Ratio of 12.9. Average class size in the district is 22. Through the years the community has demonstrated support for the school district and its commitment to providing the widest possible range of educational experiences.

For the 2000-01 school year, Brookside Upper Elementary School was named a "Star School" by the New Jersey Department of Education, the highest honor that a New Jersey school can achieve.[2]
