[edit] Facilities

Westwood has a large gym and library. There is a networked computer lab and they are wired in with local and wide area networks. The school has two adventure playgrounds and large playing fields where the students enjoy many games. Adjacent to the school are tennis courts and blacktop basketball courts. Thanks to our community association, we have an outdoor rink in the winter. The school is also accessible by wheelchair.

[edit] Instruction

Westwood teachers use a mix of teaching styles giving students many varied learning opportunities. The school has a strong focus on Academic Achievement. Therefore, they take the time to recognize Honor Roll Students each term. Pupils in Grades 3-7 use a daily planner which they have found to be a valuable link between the home and school. There is a strong correlation between school success and the daily use of the planner. Westwood also has a comprehensive transition plan. The plan helps to build a bridge between Grade 7 & 8, so that students and parents are well informed about programs, choices, and expectations at the Junior High School. Westwood features a Resource Team that works as a problem solving group designed to support teachers, parents and community agencies in meeting the diverse needs of the pupils. They have a morning and afternoon kindergarten class to choose from.
