Westside Parkway is a planned freeway in Bakersfield, California designed to connect western Bakersfield to downtown. It was originally planned to link Highway 99 and Interstate 5, but the western terminus is now planned to be about 8.5 miles east of I-5. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2008 or 2009. [1]. Completion is scheduled for 2012 or 2013.
The highway was first proposed in 1980. The current design has it running from the intersection of Stockdale Highway and Heath Road to a point on Truxtun Avenue near Oak Street. Traffic models show the parkway carrying 37,000 vehicles a day in 2013. Westside Parkway hits funding roadblock
The freeway's estimated cost in 2005 was $175 million, but by 2007 this increased to $300 million.
