[edit] Demographics
From the 2007 Standardized Testing and Reporting (STaR) data from the California Department of Education [2]
36% Hispanic/Latino 29% African American 13% Filipino 10% White 9% Asian 2% American Indian or Alaska Native or Pacific Islander
- percentages may not sum to 100 due to responses of: other, multiple, declined to state, or non-response.
[edit] Academic Accountability
Of the four Manteca Unified School District high schools, Weston Ranch High School was the only one not to meet the 2007 criteria of the California Department of Education's Academic Performance Index (API)[3] WRHS's API was ranked 3 (on a scale of 1-10) in 2006 statewide analysis. [4]
It is interesting to note that, while the WRHS student body is nearly a third African American (see: Demographics), the school did not meet the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for participation of African Americans in either English/Language Arts or Math.
Also according to their 2006-7 Accountability Progress Report [5] WRHS's schoolwide proficiency in English/Language Arts was below 42%. Math proficiency was below 39%. Proficiency measures amongst black students was substantially lower in both disciplines.
STaR scores further attest to the dubious academic achievement of WRHS students. [6]
[edit] Sports
In its second year with a varsity team, the Varsity Football team won a share of the Valley Oak League title during the 2005-2006 season. They shared the title with Manteca High and Sonora High. The team lost in the first road of the playoffs. They lost to Bear River High School. They finish the season 8-2 with their only loses coming from Manteca High and Bear River High.
During the 2005-2006 season the Varsity Boys Basketball finished the season with an impressive 20-6 record after going 1-24 the previous year. This was just the second season with a varsity team. The basketball team also won a share of the Valley Oak League title; sharing it with Sonora High. The team made it to the second round of the playoffs losing to Foothill High School of Sacramento.
In the 2006-2007 basketball season Weston Ranch Varsity Boys made it to the San Joaquin Section Championship as a seventh seed. Matt Boesch was the most notable alumni, he graduated as class of '07 and everyone thought he was awesome.
