Westminster Christian Academy is an independent, K-12 grade college-preparatory school in Watkinsville, GA. It was founded by a group of like-minded Christian families in the late eighties as a homeschool group where their children's education would be based on biblical principles. During its first year, the academy employed one teacher and had only twelve students. The school continued to rent its classrooms from several area churches until, in 1998, a new campus was completed on thirty acres of land in Oconee County. At the end of the 98-99 school year, Westminster saw its first class graduate. Since then, the school has continued to operate in the same location.

[edit] Athletics

Westminster Christian Academy's eighteen sports teams compete within the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA). These teams include soccer and basketball teams for both boys and girls, along with baseball and girls' volleyball. In the Fall of 2003, Westminster fielded its first varsity football team. Though baseball, basketball, and volleyball teams have each won numerous state and region championships, the majority of the school's funds are directed to the induction of football into Westminster. Though the team has not fared well it is understandable as the program is new and will take some time to stand on its own feet. The school is currently in the process of turning its baseball field into a football field. A new baseball field will be built behind the current one.Baseball has also done very well at Westminster and will continue to do so. They have very promising upcoming players. This goes for the other sports as well.

[edit] Uniform

At WCA, students are required to wear a uniform. This uniform consists of a logo-less polo shirt of any solid color and khaki or navy pants for boys. Girls must also wear a polo shirt (same rules apply) but are given the option of khaki or navy pants, jumpers, skirts, or skorts. On Fridays, all students are allowed to participate in what is known as "Casual Friday". This consists of the ability to wear jeans (they cannot be ripped), a Westminster-related T-shirt or a striped polo. This applies to all students. Additionally, students are not allowed to wear flip flops or thonged shoes of any type. Many students do not appreciate the dress code, but deal with it because they do not really have a say.
