Westland Milk Products is an independent co-operative dairy factory located on the eastern edge in the town of Hokitika on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is owned by over 380 farmer shareholders, who supply milk to the factory for processing.
The company produces a number of milk-derived food ingredients including butter, milk powder, caseinates and milk protein products, most of which is exported.
[edit] History
After the deregulation of the New Zealand dairy industry in 2001, nearly all of the dairy companies in New Zealand amalgamated to become Fonterra. Westland Milk Products' share-holders voted to remain an independent co-operative.
