Westlake High School is a public high school in Westlake Village, California, hosting grades 9-12. It is one of four high schools in the Conejo Valley Unified School District, and consistently has significantly above average API and SAT scores. Its mascot is the warrior; although previously a Native American Indian warrior, the logo was changed to a simple "W" and spear in order to prevent discrimination. Its school colors are blue, orange, and white. Founded in 1978 and currently headed by principal and head of the janitorial staff Ron Lipari. It has expanded to its current size of over 2,400 students.
The first graduating class was the class of 1980. The first principal was Mr. William Albers. All students entering Westlake High School in 1978 signed a charter, which sits in the office today. Middle schools that feed into Westlake include Colina Middle School and Los Cerritos Middle School.

[edit] Athletics

The Westlake Warriors boast one of the most prestigious athletic programs in the CVUSD. Athletics at Westlake High School include football, basketball, cross country, track, swimming, water polo, wrestling, baseball, softball, tennis, golf, soccer, cheerleading, and dance.

The cross country team consistently ranks extraordinary and always strives for the absolute best. [2] Joe and Sheryl Snyder having been coaching the team for over 13 years. Joe has degrees in kinisieology and exercise physiology and has coached many athletes to all-league, county and CIF performances.

Troy Burns, another important cross country coach, is known for appearing at every single section of the course for every runner. He has been with Westlake for 9 years, 3 prior years with Nordhoff High in Ojai. He has been a member of coaching staffs that have been to 6 state finals (3 with Westlake), 3 state champions, and 9 consecutive CIF Finals (6 with Westlake). His past running accomplishments include: All Ventura County, 3 time All Channel League, and member of 3 undefeated Channel League Champion Teams at Buena High School. [3]

The football team, known within the organization as the "Band of Brothers", is usually not ranked in the top 25 but ranked in the top 100 in California. Their first football CIF title came in 1999 (13-1 record, having only lost one game by one point) under head coach Jim Benkert and the team has since repeated as champions in 2003 (14-0). Coach Benkert has continually anchored the team and as a result, the Warriors have usually been close to the Marmonte League title. Although Westlake's soccer team has won the Marmonte League title several times (most recently in 2006), they have not had the same luck in CIF competition, losing in the semis in 2005 and 2006. The boys' varsity tennis team won the CIF in 2006, going 16-0.[citation needed]
