[edit] History and Development

Westfield Manukau City was not always part of the Westfield Portfolio. Originally opened in 1976, it was fully acquired by the Westfield Group in 2001.[2]

The centre was redeveloped in 1986 and 1992, by then owners National Mutual and Fletcher Challenge.[2] After taking partial ownership in 1998, further redevelopments were instigated in 2003 by Westfield, adding additional speciality outlets as well as enabling upgrades to an existing supermarket within the centre.[2][3] Further redevelopments were undertaken in 2007.[2][4] The expansions are valued at $70 m NZD (2007) and include a new mall with 35 additional speciality stores, and a Skycity cinema.[4] The expansions were finished in late 2007, with the exception of the cinema which is to open in 2008.[3]
