Western School of Health and Business Careers in Pittsburgh offers a range of specialty health care programs. The Pittsburgh location is the main campus of the school and a branch campus is located in Monroeville, PA. WSHBC opened in October of 1980 and The National Association of Trade and Technical Schools became the institutional accreditor of the school in 1985.[1]

Requirements for admission in to WSHBC – Pittsburgh include:

  • Personal interview
  • Application for admission
  • Statement of general health signed by the student
  • Entrance examination
  • Enrollment agreement
  • High School diploma, certificate or other official proof of graduation from an institution providing secondary education, or the equivalent of such graduation, as recognized by the United States
  • Wonderlic exam.[3]

The Western School of Health and Business Careers is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT).[4]

WSHBC’s Medical Assistant and Medical Assistant Specialist program is programmatically accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).[5]

The pharmacy technician training program conducted by Western School of Health and Business Careers, Pittsburgh, PA (Branch), is accredited by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists.[6]

The Radiographer Program is on probationary accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).[7]

The Veterinary Technology Program is accredited by the AVMA as a program for educating veterinary technicians.[8]

The School is also approved by the PHEAA (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency) and Pennsylvania Department of Education for Training Veterans.[9]

The Western School of Health and Business Careers is authorized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to confer the Associate in Specialized Business and Specialized Technology Degrees.[10]

Western School of Health and Business Careers is located in downtown Pittsburgh. The campus consists of 17 lecture rooms, seven classroom/labs, three computer labs and three independent labs. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer lab houses six Ultrasound machines for imaging and film case studies. The Veterinary Technology lab has a veterinary kennel and examination lab. The Medical Assistant program incorporates the use of the clinical medical labs including EKG, urinalysis, IVs, and hematology equipment. The Radiographer program houses an X-ray simulation lab with film case studies..[12]
